R-Dogs, The Rosslyn Dog Owners Group

R-Dogs is a nonprofit organization that sponsors Rosslyn’s dog park.

We were founded in 2018 by a group of neighbors with the idea of building a dog park for canine companions living in the densely populated Rosslyn neighborhood. After identifying the west side of Gateway Park as an underutilized location suitable for the park, R-Dogs volunteers worked tirelessly for three years to make the park happen. They completed a dog survey, designed a concept, raised awareness, approached the County, and eventually earned approval. We then raised private funds and used them to build the park.

In 2018, 400 dogs lived within six blocks of Gateway Park West. Today the number likely exceeds 1,000.

R-Dogs is informal and welcoming. Our volunteers clean the park, make improvements, raise funds for the park, and build community among local dog owners. We also run an Instagram, this website, and a quarterly newsletter. We’d love for you to join us!

Gateway Park Interim Dog Park

The temporary dog park, formally known as the “Gateway Park Interim Dog Park” opened in 2021. All are welcome.

The East side of Gateway Park hosts events like the Rosslyn Jazz Fest, movie nights, and festivals. The West side was underused and avoided by many, but now dogs play and people walk by to watch them.

The park is funded by private donations. We partner with the Rosslyn BID and Arlington County Parks and Recreation to maintain the park.
