      <image:title>Home - R-Dogs, The Rosslyn Dog Owners Group</image:title>
<image:caption>R-Dogs is a nonprofit organization that sponsors Rosslyn’s dog park. We were founded in 2018 by a group of neighbors with the idea of building a dog park for canine companions living in the densely populated Rosslyn neighborhood. After identifying the west side of Gateway Park as an underutilized location suitable for the park, R-Dogs volunteers worked tirelessly for three years to make the park happen. They completed a dog survey, designed a concept, raised awareness, approached the County, and eventually earned approval. We then raised private funds and used them to build the park.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Gateway Park Interim Dog Park</image:title>
<image:caption>The temporary dog park, formally known as the “Gateway Park Interim Dog Park” opened in 2021. All are welcome. The East side of Gateway Park hosts events like the Rosslyn Jazz Fest, movie nights, and festivals. The West side was underused and avoided by many, but now dogs play and people walk by to watch them. The park is funded by private donations. We partner with the Rosslyn BID and Arlington County Parks and Recreation to maintain the park.</image:caption>

<image:title>Making the Park Permanent - Dog Parks: History and Fun Facts</image:title>
<image:caption>There are an estimated 50,000 dogs in Arlington County alone and 77 million in the United States (2019). According to R-Dogs’ 2018 survey, over 400 dogs lived within six blocks of Gateway Park West in 2018. Today the number likely exceeds 1,000. The first dog park was built 1979 in Berkeley, CA. In 2015 National Parks and Recreation Associations described Dog Parks as “the fastest growing segment of city parks.” A 2018 Trust for Public Land study showed “more than 300 new dog parks opened in America's 100 largest cities between 2009 and 2018, a jump of 40%.”</image:caption>
